| BORDERLAND FOUNDATION
Borderland Foundation was established in May 1990. It is an independent non-governmental organisation, and does not conduct any political or economic activity. The Foundation's program activity is devoted exclusively to propagating the ethos of the borderland, and to building bridges between the peoples of different religions, ethnicities, nationalities, and cultures. It was founded by a group of culture animators with experience in theatre work, the theatres of "Gardzienice" (Gardzienice village near Lublin)and "Stop" (Słupsk), at the "Dąbrówka" Culture Center in Poznań (Krzysztof Czyżewski, Małgorzata Sporek-Czyżewska) and the Communal Culture Center in Czarna Dąbrówka in the Cassubian region (Wojciech and Bożena Szroeder). They started cooperation already in the second half of 1980s, organising The Village of Meeting. International Workshops of Alternative Culture held yearly in Czarna Dąbrówka. During their many-month journey East in 1990 they found themselves in Sejny. Here is located the Foundation's main office, there are also Foundation offices in Suwałki and Warsaw. In 2003 was established the Society of the Borderland Foundation Friends, registered in the U.S.A, with its office in Alexandria, near Washington. The Foundation's activity is mainly supported by the grants from various institutions and organisations, as well as by private donations. The Foundation closely cooperates with the Center "The Borderland of Arts, Cultures, Nations." Both institutions are connected through similar goals, as well as, statutorily, through Cooperation Agreement.

At the beginning there was an idea to create literature cafeé. Just this. But not a minor one. Let it be called Café Europe, like it used to be in Czerniowce, Sarajevo, Vienna, or Paris.
