This project was dedicated to the 70th anniversary of World War II. The main project's objectives were to discover and show the generality of the war and its aftermaths not merely to citizens of Lithuania, Latvia and Poland, but also to citizens of the whole Europe, to millions of families that had been dislocated and destinies that had been broken, actualizing the war aftermaths especially among young people involving them into research of history of their families, citizens of their hometowns and contemporaries, collecting photographs of that period as the visual sources of history. The project's objectives were achieved not only through cognitive and research activity, but also through interactive artistic and creative activities together with young people from Lithuania, Latvia and Poland in cooperation with various artists from the whole Europe in creating objects of the public art, that would help to express obtained knowledge about the aftermaths of the WWII and how the war affected these countries. Also, to improve understanding and interest of citizens of Lithuania, Latvia and Poland about the common European history and encourage the common European public spirit and values, as well as familiarize other European countries with influence of the WWII and aftermaths to the three countries involved into this project by means of preparing the travelling exhibition, the reference material for teachers and educational programs for pupils.
The project was started in January 2016, when groups of pupils and teachers participating in the project's activities were organized in Kėdainiai, Rezekne and Sejny. On March 3-4, 2016 Kėdainiai Regional Museum organized a preliminary meeting of the project partners' representatives, that took place in the Multicultural Centre. On April 8-9, there was an opening conference of youth and partners' representatives from the three countries (110 participants). The participants of the conference had been congratulated by authority of Kėdainiai municipality, representatives of embassies in Lithuania of Latvia and Poland. During the conference, participants watched an educational film 'The Red Years' (directed by Jonas Ohman), listened to papers - presentations on the World War II and its aftermaths in regions of Kėdainiai, Rezekne and Sejny. There also was a presentation of the prospective activities of the project. The participants of the project visited Kėdainiai old town, the Museum and its branches, participated in an introduction evening. Next day, the participants had a cognitive tour to the 9th stronghold in Kaunas - one of the main sites of the Holocaust mass killings in Lithuania.
From spring 2016, in all three countries the project's cognitive and research activities were launched and next year, on May 9-10, 2017 there was a meeting of 80 participants - the project partners and youth from the three countries in Sejny and Krasnogruda (Poland). There participants visited main sites related with history of Sejny and World War II. In Sejny White synagogue, the project's participants were presented with a performance about destinies of local residents during World War II 'The Chronicles of Sejny' produced by a troupe young people of various nations living in Sejny. Later, the participants were presented with a collection of animated films of 'Borderland', created with participation of Sejny youth, concentrating on the tragic destiny of Sejny Jews. Next day, in Sejny White synagogue there was a presentation of the travelling exhibition created on a basis of material collected by the project's participants 'The Past for the Common Future' and an educational film having the same name. Later, the project's participants visited Czeslaw Milosz International Dialogue Centre, established in Krasnogruda manor house, took part in cognitive tours to the manor house and Cz. Milosz, a film screening and creative workshops.
On June 1-2, 2017,105 participants of the project visited in Rezekne, where they visited the main sites related with World War II: Audrini village burnt down by the Nazis, mass killing site in Ancupani, listened to a concert of the klezmer music in Rezekne Green synagogue. In evening, youth of the three countries participated in common activities, learned to dance dances of various nations. Next day, participants took part in a guided tour to Luznava manor house, where the travelling project's exhibition was presented, as well as the internet map of Rezekne region sites related with World War II and objects of public art created during the project's implementation. Later, the participants took part in creative workshops as well as in a cognitive and indicative game.
On June 15-16, 2017 there was a meeting of 120 participants of the project in Lithuania. On the first day, the participants visited Vilnius: the Museum of Genocide Victims in the former KGB building, where victims of the Soviet regime had been imprisoned, tortured and murdered and the Tuskulėnai Memorial Complex, where these victims had been buried. Next day, in the Multicultural Centre of Kėdainiai Regional Museum there was a presentation of the travelling exhibition, film and the internet map as well as a show of an author and publicist Arkadijus Vinokuras 'Mister Arkadas and Holocaust' and his address, and a lecture of a professor of VU Institute of International Relations and Political Science Dr Violeta Davoliūtė-Opgenorth 'The Traumas of the Twentieth Century in East Central Europe: From the Past to the Future'. Later, the participants were presented with objects of public art in Kėdainiai, after that, the participants visited a mass grave of the Holocaust victims in Daukšiai village.
On June 30 - July 1, 2017 there was a final meeting of 101 partners of the project, held in Kėdainiai and Paberžė, where the participants discussed about the project, evaluated its results and talked about the project's succession.
