Belarusian Collegium

BELARUSIAN COLLEGIUM, an initiative of a number of independent Belarusian institutions and private individuals, made its appearance in November 1997 and as an educational establishment started its activities on October 1st 1998.

BELARUSIAN COLLEGIUM is also a forum for public lectures and discussions, a place for intellectual, cultural and artistic dialogue, contact and cooperation with colleagues from East, Central and West European countries.

BELARUSIAN COLLEGIUM unites scholars, researchers, intellectuals, people of the arts and culture, journalists and public figures. The aim is to revive the multicultural Belarusian tradition, to promote the democratic transition of Belarusian society within the European civilization and pan-European integration processes.

PRINCIPLES OF THE COLLEGIUM:

Education and research will be conducted within the context of West and Central European cultural practices.

Critical thinking and education will be rooted in the Belarusian cultural tradition and applied to contemporary situations.

Contemporary European training techniques and practices will be used.

Comparative approaches will be used in interpreting democratic transition in post-Soviet countries and Belarusian society.

The Collegium’s values will be those of an open and democratic society.

BELARUSIAN COLLEGIUM OFFERS:

  • Supplementary Bachelor/Master’s degree training in these specializations:

  • Philosophy/Literature

  • Journalism

  • Modern History

The curriculum is aimed at producing students who will have the ability to think and write critically, carry out research projects, be involved in the activities of Belarusian civil society, academia and non-State media;

Training cycles are three years long. Successful graduates from the Collegium are awarded a special Bachelor/Master’s degree certificate. Collegium certificates do not substitute university diplomas.

The teaching programme of the BC is, as far as possible, the latest development in the relevant fields.

Collegium students are selected by interview. Final year art/social sciences students and recent graduates are invited to apply. In exceptional cases, first/second-year students may be accepted.

TEACHING AT THE BELARUSIAN COLLEGIUM IS MADE UP OF:

  • systematic courses of lectures, workshops and tutorials;

  • special teaching projects aimed at developing professional skills.

IN ADDITION TO EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES, THE BELARUSIAN COLLEGIUM

  • conducts research projects;

  • organizes international conferences and workshops.
