Sejny Chronicles

The premiere of "The Sejny Chronicles" took place in 1999. Since then, the play was presented in many Polish cities, including the International Malta Festival in Poznań in 2002 and in Bosnia, Lithuania, Germany and Denmark. In April 2008, "The Sejny Chronicles" was presented at the La MaMa Theatre in New York, and in May 2011 -- in Madrid (Spain). "The Sejny Chronicles" by Bozena Szroeder - is multicultural story of Sejny, told in words of the oldest inhabitants of the city.

"This performance is quite remarkable, because the actors - teen Poles, Lithuanians and Old Believers living in Sejny - tell the true stories they had heard from their grandparents and great grandparents, finding their own roots. At the moment they become their own ancestors, embodying their memories of Gypsy caravans, pagan legends, by imperceptibly turn into Lithuanian participants weddings and beggars outside the church, and for a moment to tell the story of Rachel, the daughter of a tailor, or a Jewish child who escapes from a certain death."
