Third Fairy Tales Film Collection - "Borderland Tales" - a word from participants

Our work on the third part of the Tale Collection was special in its character. And for several reasons.  Extraordinary experience was for us the meeting with Daria Kopiec, animator we has worked with us for the first time. She showed us how to animate the puppets and revealed to us the mysteries of light used in filmmaking. Working on this collection was also unique, since we transferred to the screen stories familiar to us, the stories of our neighbours, the stories that we collected from the older people in Sejny, as well as our family stories – so that we felt attached to them in some way, each of them engaging and energizing our efforts. We felt that we could not do anything carelessly, because we were touching on things we found very precious.

But, perhaps, the most special moment in our work was the meeting between us, the Sejny Chronicles team, at our worktable, with our older colleagues – Ola and Dominika, who used to work here before and helped us now as grown-up artists with our young collaborators who will take the narratives from us, when we leave Sejny, and continue the story. I hope that the third collection of the Tales will not be the last one.

I am very pleased with our third film collection. We had the pleasure of working with new people who led us through the unknown to us paths of animation. For the first time we told stories with light! But the most unique is that using the tool of film we were able to show family stories to the whole world, not diminishing the emotion and value of the words spoken by the elderly people, often our grandparents. And now everyone can see what it once used to be...

Creation of this film collection has been to me a personal encounter with the history of my region and town. I think everybody treats their work in an individual way. I realized that there are many things we still do not know about Sejny and about the people associated with this place, and stories that will never be known because they have been forgotten. For me, animation has become a symbol for cultivation of history, because it requires time and great attention. At the same time brings a lot of joy, when after three days work, one is able to watch a short fragment of the whole story.
