Moshe Shner

Head of the Jewish philosophy Department, and member of the Advanced Studies Faculty of Oranim Academic College, Israel. From 1988 Shner teaches at Oranim College topics in Jewish philosophy and Jewish history, Holocaust Education, interfaith dialogues and multicultural education. Shner got a B.A. in Jewish History and Jewish Philosophy from Haifa University (1984), an M.A. in Jewish philosophy from Haifa University (1988) and a Ph.D. in Modern Jewish philosophy from the Jewish Theological Seminary of America in NYC (1996)

His dissertation deals with the impact of the Holocaust on Jewish identity. Shner publishes research papers and essays in various periodicals where, beyond academic teaching, he engages himself in current public dialogues about modern education, Jewish identity in a post_Holocaust world, the shaping of Israeli society, peace education and dialogues between various parts of the Israeli society. Besides philosophy and Judaic studies, Shner deals for many years with the pedagogy of the Jewish-Polish educator Janusz Korczak, and with the shaping of a "culture of memory' in a post Holocaust world. Shner is a second generation to Holocaust survivors and founders of the Ghetto Fighters Museum (1949) and for several years he was part of the museum management. Among other projects he had developed the museum's online pedagogical center and its online International Janusz Korczak School. Shner is married and having three daughters. His mother's family, Duschnitzky, was for generation a central part of the Jewish community of Sejny Poland.
