Remembering Czesław Miłosz 2025

Remembering Miłosz -- a poster

The Borderland always remembers Czesław Miłosz — his birthday and each anniversary of his death. This year, as always, a number of events commemorated Miłosz, his life, and his work.

On Thursday, August 14, a Holy Mass was celebrated in the Żegary parish Catholic church at 4:00 PM. The Mass was conducted in both Lithuanian and Polish.

At 5:00 PM, the Song on Porcelain café hosted a discussion titled Miłosz: Towards the Second Space, featuring Joanna Zach, Irena Grudzińska-Gross, Robert Papieski, and Krzysztof Czyżewski.

At 7:30 PM, there was a collective reading of Czesław Miłosz’s poems in the Invisible Bridge space behind the Krasnogruda manor, accompanied by traditional songs from the Lithuanian borderlands, performed by Jowita Janczulewicz and Sylwia Piwowarska.

On Saturday, August 16, the Song on Porcelain café welcomed those who came to remember Renata Gorczyńska — a writer, translator, and author of conversations with Czesław Miłosz.
The discussion was hosted by Irena Grudzińska-Gross, who spoke with Piotr Kłoczowski and Michał Szymański.
