Khalil Khalilov – a resident from Ukraine

Khalil Khalilov

Khlalil Khalilov has just finished his residency in the Krasongruda Manor.

The Borderland’s guest works as an arts manager. His main focus is the culture of the Tatar people from the Crimea. He was born in Uzbekistan where his family was departed from the Crimea. In 2003 he returned to his homeland.

Between 2009 and 2011 he worked for the folk music artist Enver Ismailov.

Between 2011 and 2012 he waa in charge of the music project Music Live which was broadcast by the Tatar TV channel ATR.

In 2012 he became the manager of the Tatar folk music band Crimea. This was for him a starting point for establishing the Centre of Arts for the Crimea Tatars.

After Russia took over the Crimea illegally in 2014 he needed to move out to Lviv where he continued his work for the Tatar community from the peninsula designing various projects for Tatar refugees.

In Lviv he established A Crimean Home which enabled Tatar artists from the Crimea to take part in Lviv festivals and events devoted to culture.

SInce the beginning of the Russian invasion on Ukraine he has been wholeheartedly involved in organizing support for Ukrainian soldiers.
The residency lasted between 2 June to 2 July.
