On Friday, 11 September at 6:30 p.m., the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Berżniki will host:
LUDUS PASSIONIS — a 13th-century liturgical drama

Ludus Passionis is the oldest complete Passion play from Latin Europe. It is a large-scale musical and liturgical drama preserved in the 13th-century manuscript known as Carmina Burana.
The performance tells the story of the life and Passion of Jesus Christ, including his entry into Jerusalem, arrest, trial and crucifixion, as well as the lament of Mary.
The performance will be presented by an international group of 24 singers and actors from Poland, Estonia, Germany, Belarus, England and Ukraine, working around Schola Węgajty.
The musical reconstruction and arrangement is by the renowned French musicologist and singer Marcel Pérès. Musical direction is by Marcin Bornus-Szczyciński, and the performance is directed by Johann W. Niklaus.
Schola Węgajty has been working since 1994. For more than 30 years, the group has explored and performed medieval liturgical dramas and ancient traditions of sacred singing. Their work combines music, theatre, research and traditional forms of performance.
