The Music of the Place meets the primary school pupils

The Music of the Place studio has developed a school project whose purpose is to make pupils aware of the importance of sounds and the message they can carry.

In the spring of 2024, four meetings of the Music of the Place Class at the Children’s Borderland University took place with fifth-grade pupils from the Sejny primary school. The first meeting was held on April 9 in a music studio located in a former yeshiva, where children explored the sounds of their surroundings and learned the basics of working with microphones and recorders. On April 29, they went on a sound walk around Sejny using the Echoes app and recorded local sounds. During the session on May 21, participants listened to field recordings and created their first composition inspired by the city sounds. The final meeting on June 25 focused on working with instruments, listening to each other, and collaborative creation. The outcome of the series of our meetings was a new Sejny-inspired composition.
