Inner Ear – the masters of free jazz in Sejny

Inner Ear in Sejny

On 30 October at 6.00 PM the Sejny Jazz Cooperative hosted Inner Ear, the masters of improvised music who invited the audience to their musical conversation.

The members of the band live and work in Gdansk, New York, Chicago and Stockholm. They visited Sejny nine years after their previous performance here.

The founder and inspirator of the band is Mikołaj Trzaska. Inner Ear’s music is the continuation of the tradition of improvised jazz extended by the fresh outlook on it provided by the musicians who come from different parts of the world. Thus the music takes in social and historical changes in the world.

The main idea behind the band’s work is the conversation of the acoustic instruments. While improvising, the musicians take on different means of musical narratives from the role of accompanists who create complex musical structures from particular phrases to the role of soloists. The differences between how each instrument sounds are blurred due to the search for cords and consonances.
