The concert took place on Saturday, 1 August, at 7 pm at the Old Yeshiva. Admission was free.
Irek Wojtczak is a saxophonist, arranger and educator, an unpredictable creator who defies straightforward definitions of music. He has become an important figure on the Polish music scene, recording more than forty albums as a saxophonist and composer. Irek Wojtczak has been recognised by leading American critics from All About Jazz and The New York City Jazz Record, including Karl Ackermann, C. Michael Bailey, Budd Kopman and Ken Waxman. A track from his album Irek Wojtczak Folk Five was featured on a sampler accompanying the British music magazine The Wire in November 2015.
Tomasz Ziętek (b. 1978) is a trumpeter, pianist, music producer and composer born in Gdańsk. He graduated from the Ignacy Jan Paderewski Academy of Music in Poznań. He continued his studies with, among others, trumpet professor Markus Würsch in Switzerland, as well as James Thompson, Alexei Selianin and Laurie Frink.
For ten years, he was a member of the band Pink Freud, with whom he recorded albums and toured Europe and South America. Since 2002, he has led the band Loco Star, serving as its principal composer and producer. The band has released three albums: Loco Star, Herbs and Shelter.
With the Bester Quartet, he recorded the album Metamorphoses, released by John Zorn's label Tzadik.
