The concert took place by Lake Hołny, on the pier in the park, surrounded by the waters of the lake, creating a unique setting for this special musical event.

Jerzy Rogiewicz
Jerzy Rogiewicz (born in 1983 in Bydgoszcz) is a composer, percussionist and pianist. He graduated from the Academy of Music in Kraków, where he studied with Zbigniew Bujarski, Krzysztof Penderecki (instrumentation) and Magdalena Długosz (electronic music).
As an instrumentalist and improviser, he has performed with, among others, Toshinori Kondo, Kazuhisa Uchihashi, Hannoda Taku, Pink Freud, Paweł Szamburski, Piotr Zabrodzki and Tomasz Duda. Between 2005 and 2012, he was a member of the jazz group Levity. Since 2010, he has worked regularly with pianist and composer Marcin Masecki on numerous projects, including the Ragtajmy duo, Jazz Trio and Jazzband Młynarski-Masecki.
In 2018, his first solo album was released, featuring his own arrangements of Christmas carols for solo percussion (Kolędy, Lado ABC, 2018).
An important part of Rogiewicz’s creative work is music for children. In 2014, together with Igor Nikiforow, he founded the group Jerz Igor, which performs original music for young audiences. The group has released three albums: Mała Płyta, Jerz Igor Zimą and Wyspa.
In 2019, as part of the closing programme of the POLIN Museum exhibition In the Kingdom of King Matt the First, he composed the musical fairy tale King Matt the First for children’s solo voices, choir and symphony orchestra. The work was based on the novel by Janusz Korczak, adapted by Grzegorz Uzdański.
At the time, he was undertaking an artistic scholarship from the City of Warsaw, as part of which he was writing and preparing Children’s Symphony together with the Little Orchestra of the New Theatre.
Rogiewicz is also highly regarded as a film composer.
The Klezmer Orchestra of the Sejny Theatre
The Klezmer Orchestra of the Sejny Theatre is made up of young people associated with the Borderland Foundation. In their educational and artistic work, both institutions draw on the multicultural heritage of Central and Eastern Europe.
The Orchestra was formed during work on a theatrical production of The Dybbuk by S. An-sky. The premiere of the production took place in 1996. Since then, generations of young people from the borderland town of Sejny have embarked on a fascinating journey into klezmer music.
Today, the Orchestra brings together another generation of Sejny musicians. Over the years, many young people in Sejny have had the opportunity to discover the secrets of klezmer music. New, younger musicians continue to join the Orchestra, taking the place of those moving on into adult life. The instrumentation of the ensemble has also evolved, and with it, its sound.
Klezmer music can be heard in Sejny almost every day at the White Synagogue. The summer concerts attract large audiences and have become a permanent feature of Sejny’s cultural landscape. For many young people from Sejny, being part of the Klezmer Orchestra is an experience that can lead further, influence their choices and even become a path in life. Today, musicians from Sejny perform in some of the most interesting ensembles working in traditional, contemporary and improvised music.
Meetings with Mikołaj Trzaska and Raphael Rogiński, two outstanding musicians of the younger generation who draw inspiration from Jewish music and who have visited the Sejny Jazz Cooperative in recent years, have contributed to the development of a new sound for Jewish music in Sejny. The Sejny Jazz Cooperative is another long-term programme run by musicians from Sejny.
Music has been written especially for the Sejny Orchestra by Paweł Szymański, David Krakauer, Marcin Masecki, Philip Miller, Jacek Grudzień, Jerzy Rogiewicz and others.
